Pollution is a major problem concerning Long Island. Primarily due to overpopulation and technology, the problem of noise, air and water pollution has become overwhelming. The possible solutions to these problems have been carpooling and water purification. Long Island has gone to the point of reconstructing the Long Island Expressway to accomodate carpooling. The construction of the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane demonstrates our desire to reduce the delitarious consequences of pollution.
