Powell's Lane School is a recipient of the prestigious, United States Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award . After a rigorous selection process, Powell's was chosen from schools around the country for the honor in 2001- recognizing Powell's Lanes's nurturing staff and supportive learning environment.

Powell's Lane students are consistent winners in Newsday's annual Stock Market Game. Through participation in the competition, students build teamwork skills and learn valuable strategies for financial success.

Powell's Lane School is an annual participant in Newday's Help-A-Family Appeal. This outreach program promotes empathy and good citizenship as students provide help to needy families.

Extended Day and Saturday Academy programs strengthen and reinforce students' skills and foster positive attitudes towards life and learning. In addition, the school's Career Day helps students discover their interests and gear up for their futures. It connects their learning with the occupational world by introducing them to exciting job opportunities.
