• When does your school day
start?
Well, if you were going to school
in Westbury in 1857, you would start at 9:00 AM and leave at 3:00
PM.
• How does your school day begin?
Reading a chapter of the Bible and
a prayer by your teacher.
• Then what?
Lunch period lasted for one half hour.
You could walk home and bring a bag lunch. A typical lunch was a sandwich,
a piece of fruit, and hopefully a homemade snack! There
was no cafeteria so you would eat in your classroom or under the shade
of a tree.
• Reading, Writing, Arithmetic.
Wait there's more!
What's your chore?
Wash slateboards, put out the fire
in the stove properly, bring in water from the outside well, mop the
