| Hi,
Everyone.
|
However, this week, if you look along the Western & Southern (stream-side) Trails you should still get a peek at a Jack or two. The Mayflowers are at, or just past, their peak right now - little white flowers crowning their green carpet among the pines on both the Eastern (towards Neher St.) and Western Trails (on the far side of the Soccer Fields, toward the West Meadow & stream). The meadows are rich with Buttercup, Bluets, Violets, Mallow, Flox and others. Obviously, the bird population is burgeoning, with many, many species at the apex of their reproductive cycles. As the algae bloom in the Sawkill fades (it only lasts 2 - 3 weeks each year), the minnows will return and so will the Green Heron and Blue Heron. There was a pair of Muskrats that attempted to make a home along our section of the stream, but I believe were frightened off by all the dog activity. Here's the latest on the stupid lawsuit, filed by the flaming idiots. Both sides have filed their briefs and on May 27 have a session for oral arguments. Bill Ginsberg (Professor of Environmental Law at Hofstra ; expert on Conservation Easements ; Board Member, Catskill Center for Conservation & Development, etc.), our volunteer attorney & definite legal Ace-in-the-Hole, is still extremely confident in our winning the case. Evidently, it is even possible for it to be thrown out after the oral arguments. Let's hope so! As always, I'll keep you posted. You've probably noticed the new stone walkway & ditch I'm building to replace a muddy & steep section of the original Southern Trail. Sorry it has taken me so long to finish it. I injured my shoulder doing tree-work at home & that has definitely slowed me down. I'm calling this trail-section Peggy's Walk in honor of my dear friend & true Lover of the Comeau, Peggy O'Neil. Please be mindful of your animal friends (just because they can get away without a leash doesn't always mean that they should be un-leashed every minute) and considerate of other people. |
